Ce soir l'Amérique prend son bain

Presented at Bain Mathieu from April 6 to 22, 2005.

Geneviève draws a map of the world. She puts America in the centre and says : “We are here. We are the boss.” Jean-Pascal puts his arm in his t-shirt. His name in the play is Martin, and his project starts with an amputated arm. Marc wants to play the role of a TV host as in The Price Is Right. His first guest will be Gertrude Stein. Pascale runs and time is running out. She says “America is a white page, we can write what we want on it.”  Slowly, a family comes to shape. A family without father, without mother and without history.
For this second show from Joe Jack et John, America is told through a darkly humorous story of an orphan family that battles with their identity quest. The piece explores the difficulty in writing one’s own (hi)story. If America, with its large territories and multiple possibilities, is a white page, then, what should one write on it?
