Mimi
Presented March 31st to April 25th, 2009
At Elvis' place : 5445 de Gaspé, Montreal, #913
You have surely met people who appeared to be projecting themselves, as though followed by a camera. You perhaps even occasionally find yourself in an imaginary talk-show where you are the main guest. You may even be monitored daily by a film crew. Who knows?
Elvis, 52, is not to be outdone. He lives in his faded two and a half, combs his hair, rolls cigarettes and observes the wall. Mimi, woman coming straight out of his imagination, observes, glares, films and sometimes even provokes him. This character Elvis invented to escape loneliness begins to settle down and take up too much space, like a fungus parasite.
Since the death of God in the collective unconscious, a disturbing figure took its place: the imaginary camera. Don’t we all dream to be able to justify our existence on a giant screen, just like Elvis?
